Two new articles have been posted to the Ochsner Journal early online page to date in December:
Using Computerized Physician Order Entry to Ensure Appropriate Vaccination of Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease by Jacob R. Karr, Jonathan J. Lu, Robert B. Smith and Austin C. Thomas
For this quality improvement project, the investigators created a special screen in the electronic medical record to prompt gastroenterologists to ensure that their patients with inflammatory bowel disease have received all appropriate vaccinations, including vaccines for influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia. This project is a perfect example of how providers can leverage technology to provide comprehensive care to their patients.
Two Cases of Acute Renal Infarction in the Setting of Atrial Fibrillation Tariq Yousuf, Jeffrey Ziffra, Hina Iqbal, Albara Said, Joseph H. Oyama, Edgar V. Lerma and Amar R. Chadaga
Acute renal infarction (ARI) is a commonly overlooked phenomenon but can cause acute kidney injury. The authors discuss two challenging cases and suggest that clinicians maintain a high index of suspicion for ARI for patients who present with acute kidney injury associated with abdominal pain, particularly in the presence of known risk factors for thromboembolism.
The early online publication option at the Ochsner Journal gives authors the opportunity to make their work widely available in advance of print publication. Several additional articles are scheduled for early online posting within the next month.
