Heart_AnatomicalHeart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. As we celebrate National Heart Month, it is important to continue to research heart disease and prevention. Heart health is as important now as it has been for years.

Carl J Lavie, MD, guest edited the Winter 2009 issue of The Ochsner Journal, focusing on cardiovascular disease. As Dr Lavie describes in his introduction to the issue, the field of cardiovascular medicine offers many research areas, from focusing on ways to predict heart disease risk and determine the full effects of sodium on heart health to examining new imagining technologies and their roll in cardiovascular medicine.

The full issue, featuring many contributions from Ochsner’s cardiology department, is available through The Ochsner Journal.
